Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island known as West Island. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar with its meaning. It is often believed that it's an island to the that lies west of Montreal however it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the cities that are Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But it's not the case. Brugel grew in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to dance however a rapid growth rate meant that she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 foot 1 inch tall. As I got bigger than my male dancers, I decided to quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers that turned to acting. The teacher she had at high school was what pushed her to take the next step. One of her teachers suggested she take part in an audition for the annual school production. Following a trial her options, she was eventually the leading lady in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program which she completed in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. For the last twenty years, her work has been seen on both the small and large screen. Her work gained most recognition when she landed her part as Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 and only appeared on occasion.
